Paces for every leg of your race

Pick a sport, enter a pace or speed, and the table shows your finish time for the distances that matter: road races, triathlon swims and runs, and bike legs from a sprint to a gran fondo.

Working backwards

Know the time you want? Enter the distance and your target time to see the pace you need. It works the same for a parkrun, a 1.9 km swim or a 160 km fondo.

Pace is a plan, not a promise

A pace that feels easy in the first hour can be too much in the third. For long races, plan by effort and fueling as much as by numbers. Our race time predictor estimates what you can sustain, and the fueling calculator keeps you going.

Questions

What's the difference between pace and speed?

Pace is time per distance (minutes per km); speed is distance per time (km per hour). Runners and swimmers usually think in pace, cyclists in speed. They're two ways of saying the same thing.

How do I convert min/km to min/mile?

Multiply your pace per km by 1.609. A 5:00 per km pace is about 8:03 per mile. Switch the unit in the calculator to do it for you.

Can I hold my 10K pace for a half marathon?

Usually not. Most athletes slow down over longer distances. Use the race time predictor for a realistic estimate across distances.

Why is my open-water swim slower than in the pool?

No walls to push off, sighting and currents all cost time. A wetsuit gives some of it back. The race time predictor accounts for this.
